null Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Meets with Kyrgyz Ombudsman

On 3 September 2021, in Novi Sad, Serbia, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr Ákos Kozma conducted bilateral meetings with the heads of several partner ombudsman institutions, including the Kyrgyz Ombudsman Mr Mamytov Tokon and his Secretary General.


During the bilateral meeting, the parties briefly presented their respective ombudsman institutions, and they shared with each other the responses given to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 epidemic and the related practices. The meeting was aimed at strengthening cooperation and friendship between the two countries, to define the direction of such cooperation, as well as to share with each other the knowledge accumulated and the best practices used by the two institutions.
The Kyrgyz Ombudsman gave an account of the relations between the two countries to date, he mentioned the mutual high-level visits, as well as the activity of the Hungarian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. The protection of women, children, citizens and the socially needy was discussed, as well as the dangers of the excessive use of the Internet from the aspect of the mental health of secondary school students.


The Kyrgyz Commissioner was interested in the competence of the Directorate-General for Equal Treatment, and he described how these complaints are handled in Kyrgyzstan. Mr Mamytov Tokon also urged the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the near future, and he proposed that the experience gained by the two Offices be mutually shared.
